Sussex Community Foundation Funding

We are very happy to announce that we have received funding from the Sussex Community Foundation.

This funding is helped us to continue our safe deliveries service during the covid-19 crisis. They have provided us with funds for extra safety equipment, safety information, fuel for volunteers, rent and utilities support and also provided money to buy some essential supplies for our vulnerable community members that we did not receive in surplus food deliveries, such as deodorant and menstrual products.

We are very grateful for the Sussex Community Foundation Emergency Fund for aiding us to continue to bring vulnerable members of our community fresh, nutritious food.

If you would like support from The Forest Row Community Fridge please do not hestitate to contact us on or via the contact form.

We are currently open to guests, please check our opening times for more information.

A Big Thank You Waitrose & Partners East Grinstead

In February 2020 we opened our doors to the Community Fridge. To get to this stage, we had lots of help and support.

We want to say a big thank you to Waitrose & Partners in East Grinstead, who very kindly donated to us a bounty of vital cleaning supplies. Little did we know at the time, that not only would this supply of disinfectants and cleaning materials be vital to keeping the fridge clean in general but supported us with vital sanitising between deliveries during the pandemic.

Waitrose & Partners have also been integral food partners for us, and they regularly donate surplus fresh food to us.

In June, Waitrose and Partners East Grinstead also donated £330 to us, through their community matters programme. This donation goes a huge way to help us to continue our work. A huge thank you to Waitrose & Partners for the continued support.

Welcome to The Forest Row Community Fridge

Welcome to the Forest Row Community Fridge.

We are based in Forest Row, East Sussex. We redistribute surplus food items to the community to reduce food waste & tackle food poverty

Why is food waste a problem?

  • 6.6 million tonnes of food is thrown away every year in UK households (WRAP)
  •  All the world’s nearly one billion hungry people could be fed on less than a quarter of the food that is wasted in the US, UK and Europe (OLIO)

How does The Community Fridge work?

  • We collect surplus food from predominately from supermarkets, but also from homes, and redistribute within the community.
  • The Community Fridge is welcome to everyone.
  • Although the food is free we welcome donations that help pay for our running costs
  • We operate thanks to a great team of volunteers, of whom without we wouldn’t be able to redistribute healthy delicious food!
  • Although our doors are currently closed to visitors we are still operating deliveries. If you’d like support please email us or contact via the contact form on our homepage.

How can you help?

We’d love to welcome you into our team if you’d like to help. We need volunteers to pick up deliveries, to deliver food during the current changes and also volunteers to help with admin. If you’d like to get involved, please send us an email to

How are we funded?

We are currently funded through a few different sources.

We received a grant from Sussex Community Foundation to help cover volunteer and running costs.

We accept donations from our visitors who would like to pay for what they take. These voluntary donations go a long way to support our running costs.
